I started my day quite a bit more dressed up than usual because of errands I had to run on top of a couple of meetings. You should have seen the shocked looks on people's faces as they watched me in my 4+" inch heels holding a baby carrier and walking with a 5 yr old. I was able to leave the kids with my mother-in-law for most of my errands, though - which made the day so much easier.

After the errands and meetings, I was able to sneak in some thrift shopping and added this vintage fur stole. I love how glamorous it made my outfit look, plus, it was so warm!

I also added my gold link chain necklace to the handle on my bag, just to make my bag look that much more cool. This bag is so large, it doubles as my diaper bag, too! I love it!

It was raining all day, so the hat was perfect to shield my hair. I have an umbrella, but I forgot it, of course.

The temperature this morning started out at 50 degrees and slowly dropped to below 40. Thank goodness for my fur, dahhhhling!

Progression of an Outfit

This post is specifically for all of you stay-at-home-moms out there. If anyone else gets something out of this, that's cool too.

Women who stay at home with children have a harder time than most looking put together. Why? Because sometimes we never leave the house. Sometimes our day includes cleaning mud off of our children. Sometimes we spend the entire day cleaning and other times, we don't think it's worth it to dress nice when our children will almost assuredly put a tear or stain in whatever we wear anyway.

This blog has always been about my quest to stay away from frump and stay in style while staying at home. So lately, to remedy my problem of trying to dress nice even if I'm not going anywhere, or even if I have a dirty job to do, I've been choosing outfits that can easily progress to fit my day's needs.

For instance, during the day when I'm just cleaning the house, cooking, on the floor wrestling with my 5 yr old, homeschooling under a blanket on the couch (Mom, you didn't see that), and taking walks with the kids, I'll start out wearing something like this:

I'll add tennis shoes for the walk, or just wear slippers if I'm staying in all day. Usually I do leave my hair down (today was an exception) because that's what is most comfortable for me. I will also start with a little bit of make up (mascara and blush, and maybe some eyeliner and lip gloss).

Then, if I'm leaving the house during the day, or someone is coming over, I'll just add some jewelry, style my hair, and switch out my tennis shoes for a pair of heels.

At the end of the day, just before my husband gets home, or if I'm going out for the night, I'll really kick it up. I'll add more accessories, maybe a tailored jacket or a belt (or both), and even more make-up (a smoky eye and lipliner).

I just think it's a good reminder that a simple jeans and sweater outfit as a base is all you need to look fabulous - and you don't have to add the fabulousness until when it's practical. Just layer it on as needed. Add a smart blazer, a romantic scarf, some great jewelry, a statement belt, a stylish pair of shoes...and no one will ever know that you started out plain. ;-) Well, I guess my secret is out now. :-)

As you may have noticed by now, I've decided to post randomly whenever I feel like it. So yes, it's been a while since I've felt like it! But yesterday's two outfits called for some photos because I'm totally in love with my new vintage finds!

The dress is an antique. It is hand sewn from the 1950's. It came with elbow sleeves and a corset belt. I had to insert a new zipper in the back, and of course, I had to hem it up about 3 inches! My mother-in-law found it at an antique store for me. I adore it!

The blouse is another vintage find that I found at a vintage shop in downtown Grand Rapids on sale for only $5! It's such a romantic blouse. I paired it with my new 7 For All Mankind jeans that I got for free from a thrift store. Originally I had it with a skirt and tights, but my husband couldn't get over how old fashioned I looked, so I thought the jeans made it more modern.

The gray and black you would think is easy to style since it is neutral, but it doesn't look right to me unless it's only paired with black and white, and maybe just one other color as an accent. On weather.com it says "Severe Weather", but it just means that it is unusually warm here today being 64 degrees. I'm enjoying this little breather before things get too chilly and breaking out my cap sleeved cable knit sweater I found at Goodwill last week. I think it will look great with my burgundy cords, too.

Did any of you shop yesterday? I always like to shop on Black Friday, just for fun. I usually have all of my Christmas shopping done by then, so I just shop for myself. I mentioned to my husband that he should go with me and make it date and he decided we should go at midnight. We didn't get home till 8:30 AM, so I've missed an entire night of sleep. I had a catnap of about 30 minutes, but that's it. It will take me a week to catch up on my lost night!

I don't know if anyone really took any notice to my background walls in my previous photos, but most of them were taken in this very room (my office), and the walls in the previous photos were very brown. Notice that it is a mauvy beige (yes, I made that color up myself) now? So much more feminine. So much more *me*! I like my office so much now, I moved the daybed in here so I could sit in here and stare at my lovely walls comfortably in between working. The color is just that good.

And speaking of working...my hours are more sporadic now, giving me more time to blog if I feel like it. I barely worked this week, and had the itch to blog all week. So now I am. Next week I work full days until Thanksgiving. I probably won't blog that day because nothing will fit, I'll be so full of turkey just thinking about it.

Have you noticed that red lips are now EVERYWHERE. It's like almost every fashion spread in every magazine is featuring a bright lip. Every time I see it, I think, "oh that's so fun, why don't I wear my red lipstick more?!" In theory, I love my red lipstick, but in practice, it just doesn't work for me. I can't kiss my babies, I get lipstick on my teeth, I stain every glass in my house, and my husband won't kiss me for fear of getting lipstick on his shirt or face. Are my red lips really worth depriving myself from husband and baby kisses? I don't think so. Nevertheless, I will try to keep imagining that I love it just because sometimes you can't help but want to look trendy sometimes. Ok, maybe I just want to fit in.

Another thing I've noticed in so many of the fashion spreads are boxy silk shirts. You see them tucked into high waisted pants or pencil skirts, or worn over tight jeans or layered underneath sweaters. While it reminds me of some of the blouses my mom passed down to me during my adolescence when nothing else fit me at the time (and at that time, the boxy silk shirt tucked into high waisted pants or skirts or even untucked over leggings was completely outdated), I also like how it also reminds me a tad of the 1940's because of it's strong shoulder line. If I were to wear this red silk blouse tucked in, I would feel totally retro, especially with my red lips. Tucked out, I feel "laid back cool." Do I look "laid back cool?" Probably not. I probably look like I'm trying too hard. But that's ok. Because I am.

I'm determined to think that this blouse is vintage. It came with shoulder pads, and had a very old fashioned label. And by old fashioned, I mean, like something I would see in the stores when I was 5 years old. I guess I consider vintage to be only 16 years old, because I'm 21. heh. Anyhow, I cut out the shoulder pads, ironed it up, and now I have an on trend blouse for the season. My fashion magazines would be proud of me. You're welcome Marie Claire and Lucky.

Vintage Dress For Sale

This dress is so cool. It is totally vintage. You can tell by the old fashioned sewing machine job on it. The seams are not serged. It is fully lined and I think the outer fabric is silk since I was able to iron it. The cami styling on the neckline was handsewn on. There is a tiny little hole, half the size of a pea on the shoulder sleeve. Laying flat, the waist is about 14 inches. It's a size 6, which fits like a modern size 2. It barely fits me, so I decided against modeling it for you. If you need more measurements, let me know.

The brand of this skirt is United Colors of Benetton. It is fully lined and tweed wool. This skirt looks to be brand new. There isn't a stain or rip. It has a side zipper. The length measurement is about 25.5 inches.

OK, I'm not really back...just sort of. You see, I went to Goodwill today and found a lot of really great finds that aren't necessarily what I was looking for, but would be great for someone. So I'm modeling them and selling them for just a tad more than what I paid for them plus shipping. Interested? I take paypal.

Here is the first item:

So this is a 100% rayon, what looks to be vintage midi (if you're tall) or maxi (if you're short) skirt from Saks Fifth Avenue. There isn't a stain or rip anywhere on it. It's a size 6, but fits more like a 2-4. Sits on the smalles part of your waist. It's 36 inches long from the top of the waist and the waist (measured laying flat) is 13 inches.

Here is why this skirt is so great. #1 It's burguny, which is the "it" neutral color for this season. #2 It's a perfectly on trend length. #2 It is also pleated, which is another big trend for fall.

I've been meaning to stop blogging for at least a year now, but something has always come up which has kept me going. So before something comes up again, I'm going to announce that I don't plan on blogging anymore anytime soon.

I am at a point where I am content with the status of my wardrobe and style choices, so I don't need to keep pushing myself in this area by blogging about it almost everyday at the cost of missing out on precious time with my little ones.

This style journey has been a lot of fun and I feel like I've learned a lot through it, but it's now time for me to focus my creative juices on subjects that will more directly influence my children for good.

This blog will remain open for Marissa, Li, Missi, or I to post on it whenever we feel like it, but will no longer be maintained as it was before. We will not be maintaining the Facebook page either, and eventually the email address will be closed as well.

Thank you all for being such faithful readers and especially for your kind and encouraging comments! I will definitely miss posting regularly and will miss your kind comments even more!

I usually dress a mixture of both preppy and hipster, so I'm not sure how to create a sophisticated style. I want them to think that I know how to dress, but I don't want it to seem like I'm trying too hard. Can you please help me find a good outfit? Thank you so much!

Hi Athena,

I find the best way to keep yourself from looking like you are trying too hard is to just keep it simple. Simple pieces that you dress up a bit with your accessories and/or hair.

You want to find something you already feel really comfortable in. If you are comfortable in your body or outfit, that shines through in your personality and presence. So what do you like to wear? Are you a strictly jeans girl? Do you rock the sun dresses and fun, flirty skirts? Cause sure, every Mom would love to see a girl in a sweet sun dress with a cute jacket or cardigan, but if that's not your style, why present a wrong front?

A few things to avoid, anything too short, too tight or too low-cut on top. Also, you should avoid super high heels or boring old running shoes. Super high heels will make you look like you're trying too hard, while running shoes show you don't care what they think.

If you want a summer dress look, you could start with something really sweet like this from Forever 21:

Add a simple cardigan like this from Old Navy:

Finish it off with sandals that reflect your personality. Something to reflect your hipster style might be these from Aldo.

Complete your outfit with a bracelet and/or earrings. No necklace needed.
Here is another cute dress that you could just add a skinny belt and sandals to.

If you are more of a jeans girl, show you have style by wearing white jeans instead of the typical blue washes. Gap has a great pair:

Stay away from the rock 'n roll vibe some jeans have (in other words, no rips, tears, studes, or crazy bleaches). Parents will associate that with rebelliousness, and that certainly won't impress them! A regular blue wash jean in any cut that flatters your figure should work. Add a plain white t-shirt, this jacket, and you'll be good to go. Or, to keep it even simpler, forget the jacket, and just opt for a pair of cute wedges, and a long necklace with your jeans and t-shirt.

Last look idea would be a skirt and top. The look from J.Crew below is very easy. It is simple and sweet, and would definitely impress anybody's parents.

For a cheaper version of the skirt, try this one:

Add your personality with some funky jewelry.

If all of this isn't really "you," stick with something that fits you well, is modest enough, and is appropriate for where you will be (indoors, bring a sweater for the A/C; outdoors, dress cool). Adding a braid to your hairdo, or teasing your hair at the crown and pulling it into a cute ponytail are cute options for your hairstyle too.

Just remember, the first meeting should not hide who you are and what your personality is. You want to make sure your outfit reflects enough of your personality, without showing any disrespect to your boyfriend's parents' taste.

I'm not really posting today because of my outfit - I'm posting today because I finally get to wear real prescription glasses!

After some straining problems, I went to see an optomestrist for the first time. It turns out, my vision is just fine, except for when I'm at the computer or reading something close. Even then, my only problem is a weakness in the muscles that align my eyes together so they can focus. The doctor told me I didn't even need to wear glasses if I didn't want to, but said that the prescription might help ease the strain if I wanted to wear them while I'm at the computer or reading.

I think they are so cool. :-) Do I look sophisticated and smart now? lol!

So, last week I went to downtown Rockford and walked around window shopping with my grandparents. We went into this adorable little boutique called Jade, and I loved just about everything in the store. To my chagrin, however, everything was way above my price range, so I settled on buying a needed T-shirt. When my grandfather saw that that was all I was going to buy, he immediately instructed me to go pick something else out. Instead of buying me one thing he ended up buying me two dresses and the T-shirt that I had originally picked out. Yesterday I wore on of the dresses to visit my sis in Chicago, and today I wore this dress for church. I LOVE it! It makes me feel very summery and pretty. Thanks Papa!!! :)

Product Review: Hana Professional Blow Dryer

Misikko asked me to do a product review on one of their best selling professional blow dryers. Specifically, they sent me this one. I am already a big fan of their hair straighteners (see this post), but was a bit skeptical about their blow dryers since I've always had bad luck with them. I prefer to wash my hair in the evening and let it air dry over night. Either that, or I just let my hair air dry for one day and style it the next. Plus, I have very thick hair so it takes forever for it to blow dry. It can be frustrating that I can't immediately style my hair once I get out of the shower, but it's always been worth it to me because of how dry and brittle my hair can get after a blow out.

However, I was pleasantly surprised that this is not the case when using the Hana Professional Blow Dryer. I used the Hana Shine Shield on my hair first and then blew it dry with a round brush for a full and sleek blow out. The drying process took maybe 15 minutes (that's quick for my hair), and the cool air kept me from getting overheated in my A/C free bathroom. The dryer is not very loud, too, so my kids actually stayed asleep while I did my hair.

My hair was soft, smooth, shiny, and full bodied after the blow out with no need for touch ups with a flat iron. I'm definitely in love with my new blow dryer!

I recently purchased a pair of Bumpits from Misikko. I'm amazed at how simple they are to use, and how long they remain in place! The instructions tell you to tease your hair first, but I find I don't have to. I just pull some hair up, stick the Bumpit in place, fan the hair over it, spray a little hairspray (if I'm leaving my hair down), or go sans hairspray if I pin my hair in place in the back, and I'm good to go for the entire day!

Food Post: Chicken Souvlaki

One of my best friends bought me a subscription to the House Beautiful magazine. One of the many things I love about it is their recipe of the month. I tried this month's recipe, chicken souvlaki, and loved it!

You use cilantro, lemon, yogurt, tumeric, coriander, chili pepper, and olive oil to marinate the chicken in, and then once you grill the chicken on kebabs, they are ready to be stuffed in pitas with cilantro and a cilantro, lemon, and yogurt sauce. I cut up boiled beets, sugar snap peas, and green onions for the side, too. So fresh and light, but packed with flavor!

The best thing about cooking is getting to wear one of my aprons from my apron collection!

Even my 4 year old son loved it, and there's not much he likes.

Hubby and I took both the kids out for our first family jog this morning. We only made it slightly over two miles, but considering we were switching off pushing 47 pounds in a non-jogging stroller, and considering I'm only 6 weeks post partum, we were proud of ourselves afterwards. I've started jogging along with pilates these past couple of weeks and feeling like my body is finally starting to get back into shape, but during our jog when my son told me I looked like a horse, I realized I still have a long way to go! ha ha! Leave it to a 4 year old to tell you like it is.

I was recently sent Sibu Beauty's daytime facial cream to try out. Reading up on their products, I was impressed with their commitment to natural and eco-friendly ingredients and packaging. This is my second week back to teaching Sunday School for my son's 4 year old class at church every other week. Digging through my wardrobe to find something dressy enough for church, yet casual enough for a class full of rambunctious kids, and practical enough for the heat and nursing a newborn, was tough. Dressing for nursing has been a lot harder for me than figuring out how to dress my pregnant body. Not to mention having to figure out how to wear things that flatter my curvier proportions! I'm so grateful that Goodwill is only 2 minutes away from my house so I can snag anything that might work to remedy my temporary situation. And yes, I found this embellished knit top from Ann Taylor Loft at Goodwill for only $3! Perfect!

Yesterday was our 6th anniversary! Unfortunately, we had to spend the day working a booth at a conference for the organization I work for. But thankfully, we found a really nice restaurant nearby to celebrate at after we worked.

My husband took care of the baby while I worked the booth, and then he just brought her back to me every 3 hours and manned the booth while I took her for a bit to feed her. It worked out smoothly, and the dinner afterwards was exceptional!

So glad to have had 6 wonderful years married to my best friend!

Although my maternity leave is over, I'm still staying in most days, and taking it easy. But with my sister being here this week, we decided to go out to lunch and do some shopping yesterday - I finally had an excuse to dig through my closet and see if anything fit!

Kept my son pretty casual, though. Anymore he can't keep his clothes nice no matter what we do! He's at that stage where jeans last only a couple of weeks before he puts holes in the knees!

French Macaroon

Hi! Missi here, I'm out in Ohio visiting Nic "helping" her and getting my fill of her two adorable children.

Nic and I have been talking about making French Macaroons for awhile now, so this morning I thought I'd try my hand.

We did run into a problem, we were unable to obtain Almond flour for our delectable treats. So...I MADE some! Using Nic's blender I put in a few handfuls and whirled away. After, I went ahead and sifted the Almond flour, in hopes to rid myself of some of the skin.

Next I made a little raspberry puree for the cookies.

Sugar, Anyone?

After whipping the egg whites till light and fluffy, folding in the flour/sugar mixture and adding the raspberry puree. I pipped the filling onto parchment paper and placed in a preheated oven for about ten minutes.
After cookies cooled, I sandwiched with raspberry jam and had my taste tester sample for approval. Approval was granted:-)
I tried two batches. One batch I cooked longer then the other, seeing which would taste better.
In the end, the shorter cooked cookies not only tasted the best, but also kept their pink color
Next time I'll use blanched almonds for my flour, so there aren't any brown flecks in the cookies and I'll try some cocoa powder in the cookie and chocolate ganache for the filling!

My Birth Story

Hey everyone! So excited to finally be writing that the baby arrived! We are enjoying our little girl, Cassandra Rose (whom we call Cassie) so much, and can't seem to get enough of her! She is a very content little girl, already going 6+ hours between feedings at night. We are very blessed!

Due to some concerns with some of her biophysicals, my midwives recommended an induction for Wednesday morning when Cassie was 16 days past her due date. I really didn't want an induction, but since there was some question about Cassie's health, I decided to go with the induction. The midwife also promised that if the induction didn't take, they would take me off the pitocin and send me home.

Wednesday morning we got to the hospital at 6AM and after paperwork, several tests, and lots of prep work, they finally got the pitocin drip started by 9:30AM. Unfortunately, the Doctor came in and said that my biophysical from that morning did not look perfect and that they were going to make sure I had the baby and not allow me to go home if the induction didn't take. I was pretty upset about that and worried that after a hard labor I'd end up in a c-section because of no progression yet again (this happened with my first).

Anyway, they started the pitocin at a very low dosage, so the contractions I was already having on my own from the night before and all morning, just continued at the same strength and length for two hours. By 11:30AM, the pitocin finally kicked in, and my early labor contractions began.

My husband and Mom were there and were AMAZING support. They got me through each contraction, and in between we all shared laughs and excitement over the fact we would be meeting our little girl soon!

Active labor started around 1:30 or 2PM and as things got intense, my support rose to the challenge, moving me to new positions, holding me up, putting pressure on my back, and encouraging me by letting me know how the baby was doing and telling me I was doing great. Also, unlike my last induction, I had breaks between each contraction, making the whole process a whole lot more bearable.

I finally got to 8cm (transition labor) by 8:30PM, and an hour after that my water broke. I was so excited that I had gotten this far already, that I had Mom take a picture of me between a contraction and I smiled as big as I could under the circumstances! ha ha!

After 3 hours of transition labor, I did not progress at all. My whole labor was back labor as the baby's face was turned upwards. The baby was not dropping far enough down, and the contractions were pitocin aggravated and not really getting me anywhere. I noticed nurses looking concerned, and my midwife was putting me in several different positions to try and get the contractions to be more effective.

At this point, I mentioned sarcastically to Mom and the midwife in between a contraction that I was ready for a c-section. The midwife thought I was serious and suggested I try an epidural instead. I caved immediately and requested the epidural. I just knew I would be laboring all night and wouldn't get anywhere, and thought I could bear that a whole lot better if I had the epidural. I could tell my midwife was disappointed in my choice, but she went ahead and called up the anesthesiologist, who came to my rescue almost immediately!

By midnight, I had the epidural and was able to cope with the pain a whole lot better. I could only feel pressure in my lower back, pelvis and legs, so the only pain I felt were the contractions I had in my upper abdomen/stomach area. It was a very successful epidural!

The midwife told me to sleep, but my body wouldn't stop shaking, and I could feel every contraction. She upped the dosage of pitocin, too, so even though I couldn't feel the sharp pains, my body was too taxed to sleep. I was checked every hour and there was still no progression. I was still 8 cm! Argh!

By 5AM there were some concerns about progression so another nurse came in and spent 30 minutes stretching me open to complete with each contraction I had. Thank goodness I was on an epidural for all of this!

By 5:30AM I was complete and the pushing began!

I pushed my brains out (and quite a few other things out) for 2.5 hours straight, and the baby was still only at a plus 1 (the baby needed to get down to a plus 5 in order to get through the birth canal to even crown). The epidural kept the pain bearable, so I had enough energy to push like crazy, and yet still the baby would not come down. She was still in the wrong position, so again there were some concerns that I would end up in a c-section.

Before a c-section, though, it was recommended I try a vacuum. I was nervous with this at first since I had heard stories of how badly this can hurt the baby, but I also really wanted to avoid a c-section. I agreed to the vacuum, and 15 minutes later the doctor was using it and the baby was finally moving!

By 8:01AM, we finally got to meet our little girl!

So I got my vaginal birth!!!

I didn't hold to my goals of no induction, epidural, or assistance (like the vacuum), but at least I avoided the c-section and now will have a better chance of a normal labor next time around!

Even though there were concerns about the baby's health, the baby was perfectly healthy. Cassie was not too big, her placenta was not deteriorating, her blood pressure never got too low, and there was only a slight bit of meconium. So even though she was 17 days late in coming, she had no problems at all!

Thank you for praying for me and the baby! Your prayers were answered and we are enjoying a beautiful, happy, healthy baby girl!

So, my outfit today is nothing special. I am trying to figure out new ways to wear/pair up old things. I'd like to minimize spending so I can save for nicer car in the future. Buuuut..........I bought a new bright colored necklace recently. It has a fun hook in the back, so I had to get it! I decided to show you my face today....yesterday it was too terrible to reveal.

A month or so ago, I used 10 crest whitening strips, and I brush my teeth with the "vivid" whitening toothpaste 2 or 3 times daily. I have noticed a huge change in how white my teeth are, AND they have stayed white!

I would like to try to keep things interesting here while Nic is resting before the baby arrives. I would have posted all winter, but because I live in Florida, my outfits are much different than most everywhere else. Now that the weather is coming back around, what I wear everyday is more relevant.

I went out to breakfast with friends this morning. It felt like a Spring morning (even in Florida), so I dressed accordingly.

I'm in a lot of pain and am so tired now, that besides my daily walks, I'm mostly on the couch or in bed (thanks to the pampering my Mother is giving me). All is well, though, and I can't wait to post again with an update that the baby is here!

Unfortunately, the baby decided to pull some stunts again as soon as we got to the event. I knew it wasn't labor, but I couldn't stand up or keep the grimace off my face either. Thankfully I made it through the dinner shielded by some close friends so I could get through the contractions, but I left before the speech portion of the event. By the time I left, things were slowing down and now I'm home in my PJs wishing something more had happened! I wish this baby would stop teasing me and give me the real thing! lol!

A Thank You

I didn't think I'd be blogging about maternity style 10 days after my due date, but here I am, still pregnant, and still trying to figure out how to dress my very large baby bump. Tonight I have a benefit to go to with my husband, and as I sit here trying to figure out what I want to wear, I can't help but think about all the women who have gone before me (or right along side me) to inspire me to stay stylish while pregnant. In fact, these women are so incredible, I just have to publically thank them here for how amazing they are! I just have to let them know that they influenced me greatly and gave me the courage to keep up with my style regardless of how sick and tired I felt because of the pregnancy.

So here goes...Megan from The Frugalista Diaries (or Pregnant and Fabulous) was one of my first finds after I got pregnant, and helped me a lot in finding my own style. We are due about the same time and are both pretty petite, so I was glad to have someone else who was about my same size and feeling just as uncomfortable as me help encourage me through the pregnancy style blues. And boy does she look good! She is still wearing heels!

Teal, at Expecting Chic blew me away with her effortlessly chic and casual ensembles.

Lena at Quality Rivets had super cool pregnancy style. I've been copying this look by wearing my own fedora hat on numerous occasions throughout my pregnancy.

Megan at DIY Maternity has loads of maternity style! Most of her looks were so uniquely hers, she designed them from scratch (quite literally)!

Marie from Lemondrop Vintage barely ever wore maternity clothes, but continued thrifting to find unique vintage finds that dressed her baby bump.

Indiana over at Adored Austin was one of the cutest pregnant mommies I've ever seen! Her looks were not only cool, but were comfortable as well!

Melissa from I Still Love Fashion came up with amazing looks that were always under even my (super low) budget!

I was stunned when I recently found M's blog, Dear Baby. I was sure her photo below was a magazine cover, not a normal personal photograph! She is gorgeous and makes her baby bump figure look so romantic!

S from Academichic has been rocking put together casual looks that are so tasteful, you can barely tell she is even pregnant yet!

E, also over at Academichic was the first pregnant blogger I ever found, and I found her a couple of years before I was pregnant. It is truly because of her that I was determined to continue blogging during this pregnancy. She always looked put together and stylish, baby bump and all! E is expecting again and is continuing to come up with polished maternity looks.

Lastly, I got some great tips from Imogen at Inside Out Style and Angie's blog, You Look Fab.

There are some newer maternity bloggers that I've added to my maternity inspiration link that are definitely in the category above, I just can't relate to them yet because they aren't as huge as I am, being they are in their second trimesters still. I just have to mention them as being fabulous as well, though, too - Strawberry Koi, What Andie Wears, and Stylish White Female are incredible!

Thank you to all of you fabulous ladies who have inspired me these past 10 months to not give up on my style and appearance even though morning sickness and gaining 35+ pounds in a short period of time would normally make me want to just wear sweatpants and tennis shoes! You all are AMAZING!

Lady In Waiting - 41 Weeks Today!

I've now had 4 episodes of what I like to call false labor. I call it false labor because I get contractions, shakes, nausea (and other things that I won't mention on here) for several hours. The contractions come 2 to 5 minutes apart and are very consistent. One was when I was almost 38 weeks for just two hours, another at 39 for about two hours again. My last two episodes were this week. One two nights ago for 6 hours and last night it lasted all night long and to the point where they got longer and closer together as the night wore on. Thankfully, I know enough about labor from my first (even though it was pitocin induced two weeks early and ended in a c-section), that I didn't call my midwife yet on each of these occasions. Two nights ago, however, I thought that since I was this far along, something might actually happen and I called my Mom. We both agreed that even if it was another false labor episode, it would be nice to have Mom around to distract me and be ready for when labor actually does come. So she made the three hour drive out with my 11 year old brother late on Saturday night (got here a little after midnight), and has been doting on me ever since! I LOVE my Mom!

So even though last night was rough, and I'm now feeling too sore and exhausted for real labor to happen anytime soon, at least I get my Mom and little brother around to have fun with! I have my midwife appointment today and then we'll get some shopping done afterwards.

Four days late now. But I can't help but expect it. My Mom was always late with hers, and she had 11. And when I say late, I mean like 2, 3, and even 4 weeks late with one of them! I saw the midwife last week and she said everything is ready and I could go any day - she said I dropped three weeks ago, and everything feels like I'm ready, so I guess we'll just wait and see. I'll just have to keep nice and distracted with lots of fun stuff for the next couple of weeks so I don't get anxious.

Countdown: D-Day Has Arrived!

Since I only made it to 38 weeks for my first pregnancy, I was really wanting to make it all the way to 40 weeks for this one...and am so happy to say that we made it (with God's help, of course)! I am 40 weeks today! I'm feeling great, although I'm very sore from all the contractions I've already had this month. Since I'm a VBAC, I'm going to have to fight to not get induced next week if I still haven't gone into labor on my own by then, but with how good I'm feeling, I think I'll have the energy to put up the necessary fight and let my body go into labor on its own. So here's to hoping the next few days or weeks are productive and go by fast so we can meet our little girl soon!

DIY Post: How to Make Piping

I'm trying to keep busy with plenty of projects so I don't sit around getting anxious for the baby to come. I decided to make some updates to the "baby nook" in our master bedroom. I bought some more of the fabric that I used for the nursery rocking chair, and determined to make some piped cradle bedding, and re-upholster the antique rocker seat (that I refinished a few years ago to a dark stain) in our bedroom (complete with piping around the edging).

After doing some measuring for the bumpers pads, chair, and cutting out the fabric accordingly, I started work on the piping.

Piping is so easy and I'm so glad I decided to figure out how to do it!

All you need is some piping cord that you can get at any fabric store, some bias cut fabric, and a piping foot for your sewing machine (see picture below).

Wrap the fabric around the cord and stitch as close as you can to the edge of the cord. Voila! You have piping!

Attaching the piping to the bumper pads was easy as well. I just pinned the cord to the fabric cover for the pad and again stitched right along the edge of the cording.

I then wrapped the fabric around, inside out, to attach the other edge of the bumper cover to the piping.

It looks like the picture below when you turn the fabric inside out!

I bought nu-foam crib bumper size pads that I measured and cut down to cradle bumper size, and inserted those into the bumper covers.

The edges I simply pinned together...

and then handstitched close.

For the ties, I decided I wanted to use jute cord. I like the natural/raw edge it gives. I just handsewed the ties on each corner of the pads.

For the corners of the bumper, I cut the bumper pad in half before inserting it in the cover, and then stitched one line right up the middle of the cover. Now it folds perfectly.

Here is the finished product. Simple and clean lines. The colors match our bedroom, so the cradle can stay in our room indefinitely! (Don't know that hubby will appreciate that).

Reupholstering a seat cover is even simpler than making bumper pads, and I do it every so often to all the upholstered seats in our house just to update their look and keep the fabric fresh.

All you do is turn the chair upside down.

Find the screws that keep the seat attached to the chair and unscrew.

Pull off the old material. In my case, I pulled off only one layer of old material, but left the original to give it some extra padding underneath.

Cut your fabric, leaving plenty of excess fabric on every edge.

Use a staple gun to pull the fabric tight, taking care at the corners so you don't have any ripples when you turn the seat right side up.

If you want to add piping like I did, just staple the piping around the edge after the seat fabric cover is already stapled on.

To close the piping together, I just stapled them across each other like so:

You don't even notice the seam when you turn it right side up!

Turn the seat cover right side up, place it back on the chair and screw it in place.

Now you have a freshly upholstered seat cover!

And I now have a sweet little baby nook that matches the rest of the decor in my room!

I'm feeling pretty good. Having lots of contractions, but nothing to indicate labor yet. Baby must have dropped, because I can breathe easier and bend over easier. My heartburn is gone, too. If feeling this good continues, I think I won't mind if I go late! This is good, since I have a few things I want to get done yet before she comes!

Outfit Post: Feels Like Spring!

It is supposed to get up to 60 today, which will feel like 80 for my overheated pregnant body! It's already 50 out there, and I didn't even feel chilled with having bare legs, arms, and no sweater!

This post is a little bit of a lie, because I can't wear these heels today. I just thought they looked good with my outfit, and wanted to wear them before my feet got too swollen to put them on later. A pair of turquoise flat sandals is probably what I'll end up with later on. So glad it's warm enough to wear sandals so I don't have to squeeze into socks, boots, tights, or constricting shoes!!

My legs are definitely retaining the swelling now, and I'm not so happy about showing them off today. I've swelled so much this week, I've gained 6 pounds. I know, right? Is that even possible? I hit exactly 35 pounds at my 37 week mark, and this past week I've gone crazy. It's for my baby girl, so it's worth it. :-)

Others may think it is tacky to wear green on St. Patrick's Day, but I think it is fun! St. Patrick's Day is also my brother's Birthday, and it's almost in honor of him that I proudly wear green.

I've been waiting for a warm enough day to pull out my new straw hat. I got it during a winter clearance sale, when of course nobody wanted to buy a straw hat - and now I finally get to wear it because it's supposed to get up to the mid sixties today! I'm so excited about warmer weather!

Outfit Post: Red Eyes

I have no idea what is wrong with my camera today, or what I did wrong in taking these pictures, but no matter what I tried, each photo ended up with red eyes. ARGH!

This top was given to me by my husband's aunt who picked it up in Mexico. She bought it for me when I was pregnant with my first, thinking it would be the perfect pregnancy top. Since I was pregnant through the fall/winter both times, I really haven't worn it until now. It's supposed to get up to 55 degrees, so I'm hoping I can get away with it. I added the scarf which I belted to give me some extra warmth and coverage (the top is somewhat see through).

Now that I see it in the pictures, I realize it is not very flattering. I look huge! But it is so romantic, and I feel pretty in it, as long as I don't see the pictures...so I plan on wearing it no matter what.
