Outfit Post: Chambray Shirt

I've been hoping to snag another chambray shirt at Goodwill and this one was exactly what I was looking for. It's by Gap, in my perfect size, and cost only $3. Love it!

I wore the skirt outfit for a baby shower and then switched into the jeans for a casual barbecue with friends later. It was 40 degrees and raining, in case you were wondering why I'm wearing boots to the baby shower!

Shirt - Gap thrifted $3
Jeans - 7ForAllMankind thrifted for free
Skirt - J.Crew - $19
Boots - Michael Antonio - $9
Necklace - gifted

Cameo Appearance by Missi

OK, so she's not even truly making an appearance, because she's not even the one posting this. For those of you who don't know, Missi is my sister and she began this blog with me back in 2007. Somewhere along the way she stopped posting, but she's never stopped looking stylish!

My brother was visiting her this past week and he took these pictures. When I saw them I told Missi I HAD to post this dress on the blog. So cute, right?!

She got the dress at Marshall's for $24. I wish I had a Marshall's out here.

And, by the way, Missi is in her second trimester. Baby #3 is on the way! Woohoo!

Picks from Land's End

Sorry I haven't blogged in a while. I was on an impromptu trip for five days, and I've been sick since getting home and not up to outfit posts or creative thinking. I'm still feeling icky, wearing jeans, t-shirts, and my Uggs...but I'm dreaming of some spring basics since receiving the latest Land's End catalog.

I usually only buy swimsuits from Land's End. Their suits are modest (for my standards), good quality, and I find them on clearance as low as $3.97. You can't beat that! But their latest catalog showcased this lovely dress that I really want. It's $99, so hopefully this fall it will go down in price and I can snag it for myself. Isn't it adorable?

I've also been looking for the perfect white and striped tees for the spring. They would be perfect tucked into maxi skirts, or worn over colored denim. I always forget to invest in basic white t-shirts. They should be the foundation of any spring and summer wardrobe. Here are my favorites from Land's End - all under $25.

Answer to a reader question...

I would like to find some ballet flats/kitten heels to wear with jeans. My wardrobe is mainly aqua, purples, blacks/grays, white. What color shoes would go well with these colors, but not be too "matchy-matchy"? Two colors I was thinking were a salmon color, and a leopard print; but I didn't know if either of them would work.

And where is a good place to get cute, but inexpensive shoes?

Cap toe ballet flats were noted in the Lucky magazine as being the "it" ballet flat for spring, so you can keep that in mind when shopping. I personally am a big fan of the bows, but the cap toe looks very classy too! My favorite color with aqua is coral red and favorite color with purple is yellow. For blacks, grays, and white, I love red.

So for the colors you wear, I would recommend going more coral than salmon, but salmon will definitely work and is perfect for spring. And leopard print is always great. It's a neutral and will go with everything.
Charles David, 70% off for $79 at 6pm.com

Michael Kors - $83 at 6pm.com - and this is an animal print that would work for spring/summer because it has a peeptoe!
These are so cute and perfect for summer! They are only $23.70 from 6pm.com

Type Z from 6pm.com for $22.50
Gabriella Rocha at 6pm.com for $32

The colors of this shoe are so happy! I love it! It is $79 via zappos.com

Another suggestion would be to try an espadrille flat. These come in a variety of colors and styles like what you see above. I found that most of these styles were by Naturalizer for $59 via zappos.com
I can't resist a yellow shoe! I have a yellow ballet flat that surprisingly goes with most everything in my wardrobe. This one is Nine West for $59 via Piperlime.com

This is a nautical inspired espadrille which is another great option. It's Tommy Hilfiger for $49 via Piperlime.com

As for where to find inexpensive shoes, use the above examples as inspiration and look for the same styles that are discounted at a large shoe store like DSW. Go straight to the back of their store to check out their clearance section. I find some amazing deals there on good, quality, designer shoes.

I also go to Target, Macy's, Dillards, and JCPenney and find some pretty good deals in their clearance sections, especially if I'm shopping at the end of the season.

I highly recommend, however, online shoe shopping. The search engines are so detailed, you don't have to spend hours sesarching, but most importantly, most online shoe stores offer free next day shipping and free returns. That means you can purchase 20+ shoes online, receive them all in a day or two, try them all on, pick out what works best, and ship all the rest back that you don't want. The only price you'll be stuck with for that service is the one pair of shoes you bought. These sites also are usually running promotions where you can get even more discounts. Be sure to check out their clearance shoes, too.

Online shoe sites that offer free shipping and returns are http://piperlime.gap.com, http://www.endless.com, and http://www.zappos.com . I'm sure there are others, but those are my go- to sites. For really great discounts, go to http://www.6pm.com. They offer free shipping, but not free returns. Another great selection for shoes that offers free shipping (not free returns) is http://www.nordstrom.com .

Hope this helps, and happy shoe shopping!

Happy Birthday Sweet Baby Girl!

My little girl turned 1 yesterday. She was so precious--eating her cake and getting excited about her new toys! I love first year birthdays!

I made this dress for her before she was born and am so excited that she's finally big enough to wear it. She wore it for her party yesterday and looked so cute (as you can see).

Outfit Post: Pop of Red

This dress is one of my favorite dresses ever. Mainly because I hemmed it to the absolute perfect length. There is a certain sweet spot that is right at the knee that is the most flattering for my body type. Slightly above, slightly below, and it's just not as great.

This is actually a bridesmaid dress that I truly have worn over and over for the past three years. This time the bride was right when she said we could wear it again!

Dress - J.Crew - $59 via eBay
Shirt - Banana Republic - $11
Earrings - gifted
Bag - Express

Outfit Post: Cobalt and Yellow

I love these bright yellow shoes. Nothing says "happy" like the color yellow. And a plain solid colored dress is just asking to be dressed up with accessories and color. I obliged. My dress thanked me.

Happy Easter! He Is Risen!!

What a glorious Easter Sunday! He is risen!

My 5 year old is finally old enough to understand more about this holiday, and was fascinated when we did Resurrection Eggs with him. There is nothing more special than watching a young child start to grasp some sort of understanding of the salvation of Jesus Christ!
And a quick shout out to my beautiful sister who turned 17 today! She's wearing a Jovovich-Hawk dress from Target. She look so lovely in it!

My New Red Suede Shoes

This handsome boy was my shoe photographer. He looked so dapper, I had to snap a photo of him too!

I was rushing at the mall the other day and noticed that Banana Republic had an extra 30% off sale prices sale. Low and behold, these gorgeous shoes were the last ones left and happened to be in my size. They are from the Mad Men Collection and I got them for $15!! They were normally $120! You can't beat that!
