Outfit Post: Beige and Black

I'm finally getting over another virus (I've gotten at least one every month during this pregnancy)! I don't know what is wrong with my immune system, but I feel like I've tried everything and nothing is working...I consistently pick up every little virus I've been exposed to. When you already have morning sickness and the pains and aches of pregnancy, plus a virus, it is pretty tough. I've been determined to not let that get me down, though, and have continued in my efforts to at least "look" like I feel ok. The blog is great incentive for that.
Anyhow...yay for feeling normal today and not having to "fake" it for the pictures! :-)
I'm definitely looking forward to this new year. A new baby, new work schedule (only 12 hours a week), and I can't wait to get my body back to normal and start up my running again! I'll be training for a half marathon for this summer and then a full marathon by the fall (hopefully)!

Wishing you all a prosperous and fulfilling new year!

Outfit Post: What I Wore on Christmas Eve

Unfortunately, my outfit for Christmas Eve couldn't be very festive, since I was required to be in "costume" for our skit on Christmas Eve at church. My husband and I played an expecting couple traveling home to their family for Christmas who got stuck in a blizzard, and while stuck, dreamt they were Mary and Joseph. I was supposed to avoid jewelry, wear jeans, a regular maternity top, and tons of make-up with my hair mostly out of my face.
I found this top on sale at Kohl's by Daisy Fuentes and thought it looked more maternity than regular, so I decided to wear it for the evening.
My son wasn't in the play, so we were able to dress him up a little with a little newsboy cap and velvet vest. Isn't he cute?

Top - Kohl's - $10
Cami - thrifted - $.25
Jeans - Old Navy Maternity - $25
Wedge loafers - thrifted - $4

Food Post: Chocolates

I had a craving for chocolates yesterday and recently saw online a store that sold chocolate covered bacon. The combination sounded so weird...I had to try it and see how it tastes for myself...
I have to say, it tastes delicious when the bacon is still warm. I'm the sort that slathers my bacon in pancake syrup, so slathering it in chocolate wasn't a stretch for me. The next morning, when it had hardened, I thought it tasted disgusting - the grease had solidified, and well...let's just say, I couldn't get past the cold bacon part.
You can never go wrong with chocolate covered strawberries, though. They were the perfect addition to the family Christmas party we attended last night!

Happy Christmas baking everyone!

Outfit Post: Chocolate Day

My son and I are going to make chocolate goodies today - which is a perfect excuse to dress in that color from head to toe, no?
This is my last week of my second trimester - I will think that these last three months went by quickly when it's all over with, but for now the days are dragging by. I'm definitely at that uncomfortable stage already and know it will only get worse from here on out!

Cardigan - hand-me-down

Outfit Post: Velvet crinkle dress

I love how perfect this dress works for maternity! And to think it was an impulse pre-pregnancy buy at Goodwill for only $5 - it has been worth a lot more than $5 to me these days. These textured tights are awesome. One of my friends bought them at J.Crew, but they didn't fit her right so she gave them to me. Yes, I'm lucky.

Don't know what I would do without boots in these snowy winters. I just bought the same pair in black on eBay and can't wait till they arrive!

Dress - Goodwill - $5
Tights - J.Crew - hand-me-down
Boots - Jessica Simpson - gifted

Outfit Post: New Maternity Top

So I've finally bought a maternity top. This is the first actual maternity top that I've bought so far in this pregnancy. I spent more on it than I normally spend on a top, but it's hard to find really great deals on maternity, so I justified the higher cost.

Top - Motherhood (via Kohl's) - $18
Capris - Gap - $7
Boots - Aerosoles - $29
Earrings - Target - gifted
Hat - Old Navy - $.97

Video Post: Hair tutorial (answer to a reader question)

One of our readers asked if I would do a hair tutorial on how I style my hair (this is for you, Amy). I figured the easiest way to do that would be to show it in a video. So here goes . . .

Never an excuse not to workout

During the winter season, when the temperature ranges from 0-32 degrees here in Northwest Ohio, I don't try to brave the cold winds by running or walking outside. I also don't like to waste money on a gym membership when I'm perfectly capable of motivating myself to workout in my own living room.

Recently, my husband and I started paying for cable again, and I've been taking advantage of FitTV, as well as Exercise TV on the On Demand station. I have two 5-pound weights that I use, and I do a new 20-50 minute TV workout right in my living room on every week day. My son usually tries to join me, or he plays with his toys nearby. It's not quite the 3-8 miles of running I was doing in my first trimester, but it gets my heart rate up, and makes me feel like I've accomplished something to prepare me for this labor and delivery. Plus, it's almost free (outside of the cable bill).

My newest discovery, though, are all the free workouts out there on the internet. This one is my current favorite. Anymore, I do so many different workouts, I could pretty much create a 30 minute routine on my very own incorporating all the moves I've learned from yoga, pilates, kickboxing, interval cardio, strength training, and aerobics.

The bottom line is...no matter what the weather, your situation, or your budget, there really is no excuse not to workout. You don't need a Wii, you don't need a gym membership, you don't need a babysitter for your kids, you don't need good weather, you don't need a treadmill or an eliptical...all you need is some drive and determination.

So get out of your chair, click on the workout link above, and work up a sweat for 20 minutes in preparation for all those Christmas goodies you'll be eating throughout the holidays!

YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE!

(Just a friendly reminder from the gals at Domestic Sophisticate) :-)

Outfit Post: Moody gray and black

A couple of days ago I went to Kohl's to see if I could find some maternity tops. Their maternity section was almost empty apart from a few t-shirts, but I found some great things on the 80-90% off racks in the regular women's sections. Vera Wang, LC, Daisy Fuentes, Elle, and Apt. 9, had tons of great tops that were perfect for maternity!
Since it is so soon before Christmas, and money is going in every direction right now, I settled on only three clearance priced tops--but believe me, it was hard not to go crazy! This was one of them. It is so comfortable, and lays nicely over my ever growing bump!
Top - Kohl's - $7
Corduroy maternity pants - Gap Maternity - $7
Black clogs - Colin Stuart (thrifted) - $4
Necklace and earrings - The Velvet Lounge - $2

Outfit Post: Matching the Curtains

We had our Christmas outing with our small group at church tonight, so I felt like wearing something a bit festive. Wearing red around Christmas is about as "festive" as I get, but it works.

Please note that I am wearing a lace camisole under this top that is beige - the lighting in this photo makes it look like skin color - but I promise I'm covered!

Outfit Post: Company Benefit

The organization my husband works for was putting on an event last night that required professional/classic attire.
I was lucky to find this Ann Taylor dress at Goodwill that was large enough to fit my growing bump and thought it was perfect for the event.
My son had to stay with his aunt and uncle for the evening, but he still looked pretty cute yesterday - so I let him get in on the pictures.
The event was successful - pulled off smoothly without a glitch and raised a lot of money! My outfit was just right for the occasion, so I was happy about that too!
Dress - Ann Taylor (thrifted) - $5
Shirt - Banana Republic - $11
Clutch - vintage thrifted - $2
Pumps - BCBGirls (via Macy's) - $21
Necklace - gifted
Pearl stud earrings - gifted

Outfit Post: Hand-me-down top

My little sister gave me this top of hers when we visited over Thanksgiving weekend...little did she know I'd be wearing it as a pregnancy top! It stretches just right!
I'm feeling the baby move all the time now, of course, and enjoy knowing she's there most of the time...I just wish she would take long naps at night!

These maternity jeans are great because they have an adjustable waistband. The waistband is actually identical to the adjustable waistbands my son wears on his toddler size clothes...not sure how I feel about that - lol! Right now I have to adjust it pretty tight yet since this is a bigger size than I normally wear, so there's quite a bit of bunching in the back. Thankfully this tight knit top is helping to keep everything lay flat.

These shoes are so not practical for the snow outside, but I like how they match my lacey cami, so I'll wear them for the hubby and change into boots when I go outside.

Top - hand-me-down
Cami - thrifted - $.25
Jeans - Gap Maternity - $6
T-strap pumps - Old Navy - $8
Earrings - Premier Jewelry - $21

Shopbop Giveaway

Win $100 to Shop the Designer Sale at Shopbop!!

It’s never too early to start thinking spring!

Shopbop, a premier online shopping destination for fashion-forward women, is giving away $100 so one lucky winner can do just that. So, even though temperatures are dropping, you can shop for the top trends for the spring season right now, like the ultra-chic leisure wear trend that ruled the runways at Fashion Week.

Leisure Wear

One of the biggest trends for Spring 2011 is leisure wear. Wondering how to pull off the trend? It’s easy - just shop like you’re going on vacation to a fancy resort. This trend is characterized by lightweight clothing in cool colors like white and blue and flowy silhouettes.

Shopbop makes pulling off this trend simple, thanks to their selection of top designer collections like Mara Hoffman, which features resort-ready pieces like the drape back gown in indigo. Of course, your leisure wear wardrobe would be incomplete without a great swimsuit, like a Diane Von Furstenberg Swimsuit, and a lightweight cover-up.. The shirtdress cover up from Thayer is a fun and versatile piece that can be worn over a swimsuit or dressed up with gladiator sandals and some statement jewelry.

If you’re a frugal fashionista, shop the Designer Sale for discounted items from your favorite designers, like Alexander Wang and Derek Lam.

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is leave a way for me to contact you in the comments section. I will do a random drawing one week from today and announce the winner on December 15.

Good luck!

Outfit Post: Maternity Coat

I had my 24 week prenatal appointment today. Just a quick weight check, blood pressure check, listening to the heartbeat and measuring the fundal height...boring, I know, but exciting to me that I'm more than half way there! I don't know why my son wouldn't smile for the picture - he was smiling before and after at least!

And this is my new "maternity" coat. It's actually my Mom's swing coat that she is letting me borrow since it has plenty of belly room. I love it!

Belly Post Disguised As An Outfit Post

I'm always surprised at what things in my closet don't fit or still do fit. This sweater was one of them. I didn't think it would stretch in the right way to accommodate my bump, and am pleasantly surprised that it does!
Winter is definitely setting in here, and I get super cold. Finding layers to fit is pretty hard these days, so it was nice to find a big comfy sweater that was plenty warm and could be worn alone!
I feel like I'm carrying this baby so differently than my first. My first I carried so high! It is a lot easier to dress this bump because it sits a lot lower.

I may also be carrying different because this one is a GIRL!
