Outfit Post: To Story Hour and Playland

Today is a day off of work, so a day to spend with my son! We're going to the story hour at our church, and then meeting friends for a playdate at an indoor playground. Fun!

Outfit Post: Thrifted Leather Boots

When I found these genuine leather boots at Goodwill for only $6 in my size, I was thrilled! But since then I've realized that the leather is starting to disintegrate, and it is so bad inside the boot, that it rubs off on everything it touches, i.e., socks, hands, legs, etc. Gross! I'm determined to get my $6 worth, however, and wear them at least a few times before they completely fall apart!

It's gloomy and rainy out, and now that my son is already done with his preschool lesson for the day, I think we'll just have to take a drive out to JoAnn Fabrics and see what goodies we can find!

Sewing Project

My Mother-in-law is a seamstress, and has been buying me fabric and patterns here and there so I can get back into sewing myself (I used to sew with my mother as a child). This is my first project since I was about 18, and I'm pleased with the result! I have a wall of aprons in my kitchen, and love to add colorful/flamboyant aprons to the collection whenever I can! This one definitely will be one of my favorites!

Outfit Post: Party Dress

Tonight I'm hosting a large family party for my husband's Birthday. I got all of my wedding china out and decorated the table as prettily as my resources would allow! I'm going to show off my Italian cooking skills (I'm half Italian), and make chicken fettucine alfredo. Thank goodness I have several aprons, because I'll be needing to cover this up while I cook so I don't stain my dress with alfredo sauce by the time the family gets here!
My ultrasound appointment was amazing yesterday. I found out I was a couple of days further along than I expected, and believe me, even two days made a difference to my pregnancy psyche! lol! Getting to see the baby was very precious, too. I'm looking forward to meeting the baby, but have so enjoyed this pregnancy (morning sickness and all). I am glad I have almost six months to continue preparing for the baby and am enjoying having the baby so close to me.

Wedge sandals - JCPenney - $8

Outfit Post: First Maternity Top

While I still have several non-maternity tops that I can wear just fine, I couldn't wait to get this particular maternity top out. It was my favorite with my first pregnancy, and has even stood the wear and tear of being borrowed several times over!
It probably makes me look quite a bit larger than I am yet, but it is so comfortable, and I love how it drapes.
Just got back from story hour and playland with some friends, and now off to get my first ultrasound!

Shorts - American Eagle (thrifted) - $2

Outfit Post: 93 Degrees!

Can you believe it's 93 degrees in Northwest Ohio today?

And why is it that I get so much hotter than normal these days? lol! Thank goodness these shorts still fit!

I went to the orthodontist today and found that being reclined in one of those dental chairs is not the ideal state for a pregnant woman. After 30 minutes of it, I was so dizzy and pale when they lifted the chair up, that even the orthodontist aids (or whatever they are called) told me not to move for a little until the dizzyness subsided. I'm still dizzy from the experience, but at least I can walk straight now.

Tonight my husband's family is taking him out to dinner for his Birthday which is on Saturday. Should be fun for everyone but my stomach. lol!

T-shirt - Gap - $3

Outfit Post: To Church

Thank you for the supportive comments about my pregnancy ranting. You all made me feel a lot better. Usually when I get negative comments it doesn't get me down, but I like to address them all anyway. This time around it hurt that someone had totally misread my intentions, but I'm sure it's because I'm extra sensitive when I'm pregnant. ;-)

Service was good, as always, and I'm looking forward to resting the rest of the day.

Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday!

Outfit Post: To a wedding

This is what I wore to a wedding yesterday. Unfortunately, even though I loved my outfit as I left the house, I found the belt not to be such a good idea later in the evening.

I'm hoping this dress will stretch enough towards the end of my pregnancy, because it is so comfortable and the color is great. Without a belt, it isn't too flattering, but right now comfort is my main concern. :-)

Also, the reason I posted my "Pregnancy Flashback" post was so that you all could understand the concern I expressed in an earlier post about gaining weight for this pregnancy. Unfortunately, a comment I received made me realize I was not very clear. So I am going to try one more time to clear it up, and have learned my lesson not to share any of my pregnancy issues on this blog. It's a fashion blog, not my pregnancy blog. Since my pregnancy state is a lot more sensitive than my regular state - there is no way I will put myself out there with a pregnancy blog and open myself up to criticism regarding something so personal.

Anyway...I did not gain 80 pounds because I was happy and healthy--I had gestational diabtetes and toxemia. It was water weight and it was very very painful. I had a hard time walking or moving because of the water in my joints. My whole body felt like one big indian burn. On top of that, the toxemia makes you very sick. My last pregnancy resulted in a 2 week early induction. After laboring all day on pitocin, they had to do an emergency c-section due to no progression and to the fact my kidneys stopped working.

So I really should have stated in that one post that my concern was not about weight gain, but that I don't get diabetes and toxemia again. I am happy to gain plenty of weight, if it's because my body is growing in a healthy way to make this baby. But if the weight gets excessive, then it is what alerted my doctor in the last pregnancy that something was wrong, and will alert the doctors this time that something is wrong, and *that* is what I *was* nervous about.

My post in which I expressed my concern over this, I also said in the same post that my midwife relieved my concerns and I was *not* stressing out over this.

So, that being said...the vanity you should be accusing me of should have nothing to do with my pregnancy, but all to do with the fact I take a picture of myself almost everyday and post it on the internet for all to see. And if you have a problem with that, I completely understand if you no longer want to read my blog.

I'm still here! :)

Sorry for the bad quality, I don't know if you can see my shoes, but I've been getting a lot of compliments on them.

Sorry for the lack of posting lately! I've been pretty sick and my camera broke! Today, however I am feeling really good so even though my camera still isn't working I thought I'd take a pic with my computer. Its not the best quality, but I tried my best. :)

This morning I had to take my grandparents to their docter's appointment because my mom wasn't up to driving yet. With it being a little chili out I decided to go for a very casual and comfy look. Nothing special, but I liked how it turned out.

Denim button down- Charlette Russe- $10
Cords- Old Navy- $7? (don't remember, but they were real cheap)
Shoes- Charlette Russe- $10
Purse- Goodwill- $3 ( don't know if you can really see it )

Pregnancy Flashback

This is me 3 weeks before my due date with my first. And yes, 70 pounds heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight at that time. I gained the last 10 pounds in the last week due to the severe swelling that accompanies toxemia, making it a total of 80 pounds gained by the end of my pregnancy at 38 weeks. I was induced early and ended up with a c-section. I'm so glad we induced, I think I would have burst (literally) if we waited any longer!

Because the weight was all water weight, I lost 55 pounds in 10 days after the birth. Yes, I pretty much lived in the bathroom for those 10 days. lol!

Here's to hoping I gain under 40 pounds this time around...

Outfit Post: Wet hair and my new jacket

Just FYI - I don't go out in wet hair, it will be air dried before I leave the house. :-)
I felt like being all girly and ladylike today. This rose colored jacket and these porcelain rose earrings express exactly how I feel.
I love how the ruffle on the shirt looks great over the jacket lapel. A little bit of shirt peaking out adds just the right touch.

And yay that this jacket has a little bit of room in the tummy area. I'm hoping to get a few more wears out of this before I really start popping out!

My son has been noticing my belly sticking out, especially since my belly button is already popping out and my belly is already hard. He keeps knocking on my belly and telling me that the baby told him he was crying and wanted to come out tomorrow. And yes, my son is convinced it's a boy. Too cute! I'm quite sure my son will have a harder time waiting these last six months than I will!

Outfit Post: Popped

Needless to say, I'm now feeling really confident about this pregnancy after hearing baby's heartbeat yesterday! I spent an hour discussing baby names with my hubby last night, got out all of my maternity clothes and organized them, and then organized the nursery and ordered curtains for it. Let the nesting instincts begin now!

The midwife wants me to stop stressing about weight gain and not work out as much. The reason I'm stressing is because I gained 80 pounds with my first! So my previous workout of a 5K, plus a 10 minute ab and arm with weights workout every day is being cut into a 2 mile run with a 1 mile walk, and the ab and arm workouts are reserved for every other day. I'm also no longer allowed to put in a long run (5-7 miles). I'm feeling a lot less stressed, but am quite sure the 3 pounds I gained thus far is going to multiply very quickly now!
See, I told you!
No, I'm excited to be showing a little, even if it is just still a lot of bloating and a lot of extra food! After all, baby is only 3 inches yet! Oh, and I'm trying to get as much wear out of my high heels as I can while it lasts...lol!

Outfit Post: Good News!

I took this shot before my morning midwife appointment. I was so nervous that I wouldn't be able to hear the baby's heartbeat (I miscarried my last in March). But we heard it!! My husband and son were there, too! We must be sappy, because both my husband and I got pretty glassy eyed when we heard it.
I love how this non-maternity-but-looks-maternity-top completely camoflouges my growing belly for now. :-)
I'm 12 weeks tomorrow, and feeling pretty good still, although I overdid it on Saturday (I ran 5.5 miles), so I was really sick Saturday night through yesterday night. But I'm ok now! I'm just so excited about this baby and so excited to have such an easy pregnancy so far! Thank you to all of you who prayed for me!

Outfit Post: Pre-Maternity Wear

No, this is not a maternity top. It's a tunic I thrifted way back to wear with leggings. After a few wears, though, I thought it looked more like maternity, and decided to save it for the next pregnancy. So here it is!
Still not quite my definition of "showing" yet, but definitely bloated and growing! I'm appreciating baggy clothes!

Sweater - hand-me-down from my little sis
Tunic - thrifted - $7
Jeans - JBrand (via Ebay) - gifted
Wedges - Target - $6
Necklace and earring set - Target - gifted
Ring - thrifted - $.50
Silver/turquoise ring - gifted

Outfit Post: Hot Pink and Olive Green

I love this hat. It's a very well made gentleman's hat made by Pendleton. I love how old fashioned it looks and feels. With how the inside is yellowed, it makes me think it is vintage, but I can't tell for sure. It was a cast-off at Goodwill and I knew it would be perfect for this fall. I should have gotten a close up of the feather on the side, too!
Remember these pants? Well, their extra baggy-ness is coming in handy now that I'm not quite in maternity sizing yet, but my belly is definitely bulging (it happens so much sooner the second time around!). Shirt - J.Crew (thrifted) - $1.50
Pants - Gap - $7
Wedges - Target - $6
Necklace - thrifted - $1
Hat - thrifted - $4

Outfit Post: Girl's Day Out

I opted for leggings at first, but after this controversy, I thought it would be much more modest with skinny jeans. And if you remember, this tunic used to be a dress.
Apart from craving the zaniest of food combinations at the weirdest times, my morning sickness has not been so bad this past week, and I'm enjoying getting my house back in order and working on projects again.

Today is my sister-in-law's birthday. I'm taking her, her sister, and her (and my) sister-in-law out for shopping, dinner, and the birthday girl gets a facial! Should be fun, and the perfect excuse to wear bright lipstick and tons of necklaces!

More "birthday weekend" pictures

Do you see a gray and black theme going on here? That's my plan, lots of gray, black, white with maybe a tiny splash of color. For Fall that is:) Friday night we went out with a bunch of couples for "Happy Hour" and to celebrate my birthday.

I'm so excited about these gray boot wedges! Only $25 at Forever 21 and surprisingly comfortable to wear. I was looking for a replacement for my old, old, dansko clogs but I didn't want something to fancy or heels for every day. I hope these make for a good dressy/casual combination.
It's after church, we all want to be comfy and soon we are going to the park to hang out. Can't wait, this was a great birthday weekend!

Outfit Post: Vintage Remixed

Remember this dress?
I was trying to wait to wear it until I had found the perfect nude pumps for it. I was also hoping to save it for a particular wedding we had planned to attend. But I have been looking for the perfect shoes for months, and have learned that I can't afford the shoes I want...so these will have to do.
Also, I was too sick to attend the wedding, and I'm afraid I might already be grown out of this dress by the time we attend the next wedding we were invited to.
So I'm just wearing this dress for church. I paired it with my grandmother's vintage bag that she gave me to wear for my wedding. I haven't worn the bag since the wedding and am all giddy about wearing it today. It's so prim and ladylike! I'm also wearing the earrings I wore at my wedding, which you can see in the shots on this page.
And I have the perfect backdrop for taking pictures of this dress...my vintage victorian house!

The First Trimester Bloat, New Bangs, and An Outfit Post!

All of the sudden, two days ago, my morning sickness subsided. It didn't go away, it just became manageable. Even still, I didn't bother to post an outfit. I just hung around the house tired and lazy. The day after that, was good too! I really have no excuse not to be posting.

Yesterday wasn't so bad either. Until the evening. Not only did I start feeling really sick again, but I got this huge urge to chop my hair all off. How one can feel this way amidst feeling like their head is going to explode out of their body, or while it feels like the insides of their stomach are being churned into butter and they might throw up, or while they are so fatigued they can barely stand up, I have no idea. But I'm proof that it is possible.

Instead of chopping my hair all off, I just chopped my bangs off. Sick and all, I took a picture of them. Aren't I lovely? ha ha!

On top of feeling sick and scissor happy, I also noticed my belly portruding from underneath my shirt! No, this is not the baby showing...this is what happens when you regain your appetite for a couple of days after having spent the last couple of weeks having a hard time eating at all.

I decided to post this as my first belly shot, though. Why not? After all, I'm almost 11 weeks anyway. But don't let that smile fool you - I collapsed into bed straight after the picture (and it was only 9PM).

So today it doesn't matter whether I feel good or not. I'm posting an outfit. I have a family Birthday dinner party to go to tonight, so I want to look halfway decent.

My stomach hurts so much, I needed to wear a loose top, even though everything still fits. I thought this top needed a belt, but I used the scarf instead so that it would be soft and not hurt my stomach as badly as a leather belt would. I like how it turned out, and my stomach is thanking me for it.

And I know, it looks like I'm wearing a maternity top already - but I promise I'm not! See - my belly's still somewhat flat underneath all of that fabric!

Top - Kohl's - gifted
Scarf/belt - gifted
Jeans - Express - $19
Espadrille wedges - Target - $6
Shell earrings - Target - $1

Oh, and THANK YOU so much for all the congratulatory comments on the baby! I am really super excited! I very much appreciated all the blessings, prayers, and well wishes!
