Outfit Post: Home From Vacation

I just returned home from a family vacation to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. After a long day of traveling, a dinner out was perfect. My sister took this picture of me and you can tell I am worn out. Ignore that though! I let my hair air dry, and I only had some blush on my cheeks. Here's what I threw together to try to cover up my exhaustion.
Sorry about the distracting cork board. I collect things from all the different places I go, and it's gotten quite crowded!

Outfit Post: Summertime...when the living is easy...

I have the short man's syndrome. You may have never heard of it before, but it's as real as you and me...yeah, it *is* me. Lots of short people do all sorts of crazy things to compensate for their lack of height. I do the expected thing. I wear heels. Even two inches makes a world of difference when you're just barely five feet tall. Trust me. It can enable me to reach the sink to wash my hands! And frankly, I just can't bear to wear flats...that is except today...and even then, I feel I have to be on my tiptoes all day to be noticed. See, you just noticed me tiptoeing for this picture now, right?
Of course, I don't just overcompensate for my height by wearing heels - I also show off to the world that I'm so short I fit just right in a kiddie pool...
Or better yet, I'm so short, I could dive into a kiddie pool...
But on the whole, apart from wearing heels, I just try to compensate for my lack of height by being really really ridiculously good looking and taking pictures of myself every day...because I just look that good. Don't hate me because I'm short and beautiful.

Outfit Post: Budding Photographer

My son shot this photo of me lounging around in my office today. I cropped it a little and messed with the lighting afterwards, but otherwise, it's all him. I'm looking forward to the day when he can take all my outfit photos for me. ha ha!

And this one I took with the timer.

Outfit Post: Backwards

I bought this top a couple of sizes too large, and am loving how the extra fabric drapes.
I decided to wear my belt backwards to keep the attention on the tie knot detail on the blouse, instead of the belt...and I liked the extra detail the buckle gives the back of the top.

And here is a close-up of the cami just so that there are no misunderstandings as to my modesty standards. Plus, I like the chandelier earrings I'm wearing and wanted to show you all those too. :-)

Sunday Outfit

Please ignore my dorky faces! :)
I found this dress at JC Penny. It was originally $50, but I got it for $14.99 and I love it! Even my brothers thought it was pretty cool :). I wore it with black flats, even though they are not shown.

Outfit Post: Forever 21

I went shopping last night with some friends, and I put together this little outfit. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time (store was closing) or money to buy it! Instead, I took a few pictures to remember it by, and thought I'd share! This is actually something I wouldn't be able to wear in Florida, but right now I'm on vacation in Massachusetts...it could work here! One thing I miss about cold weather - layering.

Outfit Post: Sunflowers

My first sunflower of the year!
I took a picture of the dress from the back, because I'm actually wearing it backwards.
I pre-planned this outfit yesterday. Something I only do if I'm traveling (usually). But I kept thinking about style last night, and what it really means. That made me think about the kinds of clothes I really love--like girly, feminine, ruffly, pink, flared, and soft looks.

My most favorite dress that I have in my closet is this cream chiffon. If I could have my wish, I would wear it everyday. Unfortunately, white isn't the most practical color for a mother of a preschooler, so I rarely wear it. However, I had an idea to remedy the impracticality of the dress last night. I decided to add the layer of a darker colored skirt to shield the delicate white underneath from runny noses and crayons that eventually find their way on my clothes from day to day. I anchored the skirt to the dress with this wide belt, and voila! I can still wear my chiffon white dress, but not worry so much about staining it!

Outfit Post: Olive and Gold

I haven't made any close friends yet since moving out to Ohio, so I find myself making my husband (my best friend) do things with me that normally I would only subject a girl friend to...like, I made him sit at my computer last night and listen and watch as I clicked through all the fashion blogs I read and give him my own synopsis of the blogger's style. He must love me because he braved the whole episode with a smile and even conjured up an opinion or two when I pressed him for one. I love my best friend so much!

Going through all of my favorite fashion blogs with my husband, and hearing his opinions, inspired me to create an outfit today that was fun, practical, and very me, regardless of what is fashionable or trendy. So often I find myself copying looks instead of just doing my own thing, because I'm worried that my own thing isn't quite as cool as what I can just copy from someone else who is already established as "cool." I seriously need to stop being a copycat and just be myself.

Outfit Post: Denim Suit

I was inspired by this month's In Style mag to purchase a denim vest. The wearability of the item is so versatile. Luckily, I found one on my first trip to Goodwill for only $3!
I love how the collar stays standing up on the vest too!
I decided to pair it with this pale pink denim skirt because I thought the vest would look great with a pencil skirt. The sihlouette of the pencil skirt and vest belted is very retro, yet the take on each of these classic pieces is very modern too (denim fabrics, zippers, etc.).

I love the contrasting denim colors of my "denim suit" and how the white t-shirt peeking through, plus the belt and strappy bag, help to break up the "uniform" look.

Outfit Post: Belted Twice

I created this necklace myself by twisting together two necklaces. The one is a drippy black choker, and the other is just a silver chain choker. I like how the silver and black match the silver and black belts.

This dress used to be strapless and about mid-calf length. I bought it with a little white sweater about five years ago to wear as I left the reception of my wedding. Since then, I've figured out that only knee-length looks good on me. So last summer, I hemmed the dress and used the fabric from the hem to make the dress some straps so I could wear it without a sweater. I love how it turned out!

Outfit Post: Back from Orlando

My last outfit post was actually my traveling outfit to Orlando last week, so I know it looks like all I've worn is these jeans for the past several days, but I was just trying to pack light. This is what I wore on the way home.

My husband had a business conference in Orlando, so my son and I joined him and spent the week at pools, beaches, and Disneyworld, of course. We had a blast, but it feels so good to be home!

Outfit Post

I was just in Guatemala on a short-term missions trip for the past week. I had an unforgettable time. The whole week, I had to wear oversized t-shirts for our extreme modesty policy. I got home, and I decided I needed to wear something cute. So, I went out shopping in this outfit! Sorry about my silly faces!
Necklace - American Eagle - gifted
Shirt - NY&C - $10
Shorts - Delia's - $20

These were taken at the end of a gloomy day so that is why the photos are kind of dark. I love finding black dresses or fun pieces of clothing in black because I wear black all the time due to the fact that I am a musician and wear black for all my performances. Today, however I did not have to wear black but decided that I might as well embrace it and have some fun with a dark palette.

Outfit Post: Sunday Attire

My sister, Li, gave me this shift dress that she got from J.Crew a while back. She's taller than me, and it had gotten too short for her. I love hand-me-downs from her! I gave Li the dress she's wearing because my husband said it was too ruffly. So both Li and I are wearing hand-me-down dresses from each other. It's great to have a sister who wears the same size as you!

Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July!

Vintage Crocodile Skin Bag

This is the bag I was telling you about from Goodwill. I was attracted to it before I read the inscription inside which says...
"Genuine Crocodile Skin." If you look real closely in the picture below, you will see it. It is written in gold, so it is lost against the light. I don't know if I can believe that it is real, but considering how old it is, maybe it is real. For $2, it was worth it to me even if it wasn't real.
This is not the outfit I would wear with this bag, but just so you can see the size of the bag in comparison to me, I took the shot.

Does anyone know how to tell if a bag is genuine crocodile skin? Should I just believe the tag and not be so cynical?

Outfit Post: Swimsuit

This picture was taken about a week ago at the beach, but I just wanted to show you this cute suit I found. I was frustrated at first with finding a modest swimsuit, but I was persistent and finally found 4 actually! Modesty in swimsuits is important to me, because every other day I keep myself covered up. Just because I'm at the beach, in my opinion, is not an excuse to throw it all out the window. Just my thoughts :)

Swimsuit - Delia's - $5

Outfit Post: Straightened hair, rebellious jeans, and trying-too-hard poses

I straightened my hair today. I've been growing it out for 8 months now, trying to achieve a long/straight/one-length look. My goal was to slowly start chopping off the layers to get it to one-length. But I already miss my wavy hair and am thinking I might go back to my old fuller hairstyle. What do you think?
I finally bought myself a pair of ripped jeans. They were forbidden to me all growing up while I lived with my parents, so I couldn't resist the temptation to buy them now just because I can. That, and they were only $8.
They are a classy pair of striaght leg ripped jeans I think--but I can already see my Mom rolling her eyes at me when she sees me tonight and finds out I actually paid for jeans she has in her trash can.

I get bored with posing for these outfit posts, and am always trying to figure out a more flattering pose that looks natural. This one below is a newest stance. Trust me, in my mind it looks way cooler. ha ha!

Look at all my bling!!
