Some Christmas Pics

This is what I wore Christmas Day. My husband bought me the necklace from Target, the earrings are from Premier Jewelry, my Mother-in-Law bought me the sweater from Gap, I got the jeans from Maurices with my giftcards, and the clogs are thrifted. My son thought it necessary to be in the picture while eating his pizza, and pointing at my outfit. He's getting so goofy these days!

After we opened our gifts Christmas morning, we drove three hours to see my parents and siblings, so I wanted my outfit to be comfortable for the drive. It was very comfortable, and it felt so good to wear all brand new items that I had just opened up for Christmas!
And here I am with two of my four sisters. Jo is on my right and Li on left. And of course, my son had to be in this picture too! In this picture I'm wearing my brand new Jessica Simpson boots (from my husband for Christmas), and my J.Brand skinny jeans (from husband for Christmas).

Jo got her top on clearance at The Limited a couple of days after Christmas, and Li's outfit is something she already had.
And here's a goofy one with my little brother...

I had a wonderful Christmas and got tons of new clothes! I can't wait to start creating new outfits and showing them all to you!

Hope you all had a great Christmas and spent lots of time with your families!

Merry Christams!

The velvet dress

I was at Goodwill the other day to find a cheap VHS player for my son to watch my old VHS Disney movies on, and decided to do a little browsing. I don't have nearly enough winter dresses, so I gravitated towards the dress section.

When I found this burgundy velvet dress I immediately thought about the December In Style issue with its "Triple Play" article on the velvet dress.
I don't have all the elements in this article, but the article definitely gave me some ideas of how to make this dress casual.
My husband says that the brown boots clash with the wine colored dress - the colors match too closely. To appease him, next time I may try this look with my black boots and black belt.
Dress - thrifted - $5
Tights - Target (little girl's section) - $2
Boots - Aerosoles - $29
Jacket - Macy's - gifted
Belt - Gap - $24.50
Necklace - Macy's - $5
Earrings - gifted

Having fun with long hair!

My sister Jo came home a few days ago, and has been doing my hair for me. I LOVE it when she plays with my hair, and here are the results! :)

Scarf Tying Options: Answer to a reader question

Could you possibly give us some info on wearing and tying scarves? I need some help!

I was going to post all these great ideas I have with corresponding pictures, but then found this amazing article that does a much better job of showing you how to wear and tie scarves, complete with pictures and directions on how to tie them. So check this out!

Here are a couple of other fabulous sites.

Cantata Practice and Family Christmas Party

So this is why I didn't take pics in front of the Christmas tree before...taking a photo right into a window isn't going to make the best pic. But since my outfit is for a Christmas party, I thought the tree would make me look more festive.
My outfit had to be casual enough for cantata/choir practice, but dressy enough for the family party...not to mention weatherproof (we've got quite a bit of snow today). I planned my entire outfit around these shoes. They are the perfect blend of practical, warm, and stylish (or at least for me), plus they give me an extra four inches, which I definitely need! My next choice would have been my suede knee high boots, but I always wear them and wanted to change it up.
My husband bought me these earrings in Washington, DC, for our first Christmas. I wish I could have taken a picture that showed how much they sparkle. I LOVE them!
And what could be more festive than red lips?
Shrug - Deb's - $7
Green satin top - Kohl's - $2
Jeans - Express - $9
Earrings - gifted
Leather clogs - thrifted - $4
Red lips - MAC - Russian Red - $14

I teach 2yr old Sunday School on Sunday mornings. I try to find outfits that are girly but still allow me to get on the floor with the kids without being indecent. So today it's a dress with leggings. Scarf for on the way there

Fashion copy cat again

It's very rainy and gloomy here in the Northwest, normally I don't mind so much but...some days it's hard to get out of bed.
The below "Less than $50" article is a cute outfit I could see everyone here in Washington wearing, especially on a day like today. I don't really have the right pieces to make it work...but I'm just home for the day so no biggie.
No "faux fur" hat for me and my aviators are in the car. I also swiped my husbands button down since I can't fit into any of mine.
perhaps more on the frumpy side then stylish...but I'll tweak the look and eventually it will look good. Different jeans, different shoes, better shirt and scarf...
Anyway, the real point of my post today is to show off my new, neutral bag. I bought it at Marshall's for only $16, normally $65!
Turtleneck ~ Old Navy Maternity $10
Button down ~ Hubby's closet
Jeans ~ Old Navy Maternity $32
Brown booties ~ Payless $32
Scarf ~ Target $12
Bracelets ~ Gifted
Bag ~ Marshall's $16

The body conscious shape and simple lines are flattering, but the tiers give the dress some interesting detail. This dress would work in all seasons (just add layers for spring, fall, and winter) and is easy to care for.
I've been looking around for the perfect sweater dress and think that this dress might just be the one! How cozy it looks! It would go perfect with a waist length medallion necklace, some cream ribbed tights, and knee high boots.

Inspired by In Styles "Viva La Vamp" article I decided to mix a few of my darker lip colors today before going on a date with my husband
I know my eyes look freaky with their red pupils...but perhaps that adds to the vamp? LOL
Following what the article suggested I'm not wearing any blush...but I did put some highlighter on my cheekbones, forehead and chin. You can't really see it in the picture though. oh well.
This picture cracks me up, I love how my daughter is trying to copy my pose. haha!

Wedding Style

You Look Fab has inspired me to post pictures of my wedding. It was such a glorious day with so many beautiful memories, that I'm glad for an excuse to go through the photos again and remember every detail of the day.

I had a noon Virginia country wedding in May. The weather was perfect - about 75 degrees, and it was a clear day.

My style then was very simple. I never wore jewelry--I didn't even have my ears pierced until I got engaged. I didn't like to wear much color, and I liked simple lines.

My criteria for my wedding dress was that it be all white, be modest and appropriate for church, be delicate and simple since my wedding was at noon, be a dress that both my parents loved, that it have a train, and be under $500. Other than that, I wasn't too sure what I was looking for.

The dress I found was a simple A-line organza, with a bit of beading around the neckline and on to the bodice. I had a tulle detachable train for the ceremony and a simple elbow length 2-tier veil. My dress was by Jasmine. I loved it so much, I was planning on buying it regardless of the price. When I asked the boutique owner how much the dress was she said it had been discontinued and was marked down to $650. My Mom ended up finding it at a boutique near where she lived for only $470+! I knew then that this was the right dress. I bought my veil on Ebay for only $12!
The only jewelry I wore was a pair of pearl drop earrings. I purchased these on clearance at Kohl's for only $7.
I really loved my hair. My Mom (who used to be a professional hairstylist) did my hair for me exactly the way I wanted it. Soft, loose, flowing and romantic...a modern version of Jane Seymour's hair in Somewhere In Time.
My photographer (and good friend and co-worker) was (and still is) the best I've ever seen and she did the photography for me as a gift. I am forever grateful to her!
Missi and I, who have been best friends all our lives, shared a tender moment just before we walked down the aisle...
This picture caught us wiping away our tears...so precious!
The small country church was decorated with pale pink roses, baby's breath, and touch of lavender and ribbons. I loved my galvanized pails on the pew benches. They added just the right amount of country charm!

Missi made a stunning Maid of Honor...
And no wedding post is complete without a photo of the dashing groom!
So in love!
Our talented photographer, and good friend, Kelly, captured this shot of one of the flower girls and ringbearers leaving the church after the ceremony ended. Priceless!
This is where we had our reception.
We've been married for four years now (it will be five in May), and we're just as in love as ever!

So now it's your turn - if you are already married, what style was your wedding, and do you have any regrets? What was your favorite part about your wedding? Or if you are not married yet, what do you hope for your wedding to be like one day?

If you post wedding pics on your blog, let me know in a comment so I can go check them out!
